Winter Wolf Witch Wolf Book 2 eBook RJ Blain

Winter Wolf is the second book in this series but I read it as a standalone. It has a lot going for it - Struggling heroine trying to make her mark in the acting world, one that speaks like gravel, scarred body, no family to speak of. .. . Just an agent that gets her gigs, an apartment, and this ability to manipulate electricity. This is Nicole and her life, her family and commitments. She balances a fine line between safety and death.

The world is interesting and the characters are deep. I enjoyed the suspense and intrigue. Poor Nicole had so much on her plate. It wasn't until the ending and things didn't unfold that I got frustrated and the amount of unanswered questions.

I would like to know why a husband would stay out of his wife's life after a horrific accident. He may have paid the bills but wasn't there in person to see her through her recovery. I assume he was protecting her, but to keep apart for over six years? I have a hard time believing an alpha could lead his pack without his mate by his side - His dominate wolf would drive him nuts. Even if she's 17, was it because she was too young? Family pressure? Doctors orders? WHY would any loving mate do this? Guilt? Did he have a hand in it? Well. . . . We're left guessing.

So a 'normal' is human, someone without powers. But she does have powers and is suddenly stuffed with a wolf. Is Nicole now wolf? What about Nicole's sister, was her wolf stripped from her? The whole transfer situation and results were glossed over. Was the plague delayed as Amber and Nicole talked about or was there a cure? And what about that artic blast only hitting the west coast? What about wolves around the globe? Well. . . We're left guessing.

I'd almost say this one ends on a cliffhanger but instead it gave you some meat to chew. While this story had a lot of things going for it, the amount of unfulfilled plot twists left me raw. Usually an author has teasers like this to keep the fans eagerly awaiting the next book. I can see that but here I am with the 3rd book available. It looks like a new cast of characters and I wonder if these questions here will be answered. Now it's my choice to continue and see if this is standard procedure to leave an incomplete story. - Dan's Wife

Winter Wolf Witch Wolf Book 2 eBook RJ Blain Reviews

This book is different from the "Inquisition". "Winter Wolf" is set in the same world as Inquisitor. However, the characters are different, and it seems to be a different time period because some details are different. But It is look like, that the story timeline is before "Inquisition".
The main them is about the "Fenerec Plague" and finding a cure for it. I must say, that it took me some time to see how things start to move along plot. It also, took me some time to identified with it's main character. I was annoyed by Nicole’s guilt, fear and self-deprecation at the beginning of the book and it got worse because that I couldn't understand the source for it.
Nicole, born to Fenerec parents, her twin sister Lisa, turn one but she didn't (her sister also turn to work for the Inquisition) . She has a very strict father that forced her to developed her skills of singing and playing the piano. Her Mother was a witch that to turn a to Fenerec too. But all this didn't enable me to understand her motives. Something made her scared and she decided to run away from her family and hide from them. As another critics said before me - "It’s good for a character to have a conscience, but Nicole blamed herself for things that weren’t her fault. She was too hard on herself."
But, I think most of the readers will find the main character very likeable - She is a struggling actress without a voice, thing that limit the job offers she gets and allow her a very modest way of life. As a person, she show a great range of very humanly emotions and she turn some time along the plot from scared to brave.
The turn out point for Nicole happen after a group of Fenerec tried to kidnap her. While traveling in the kidnapers car, another Vehicles cause them go of the road. This tossed her back to her own memories accident, when she almost died. In her fear she just wanted to get out from the car. In her fear she succeed to broke the window with her bare hands to lie trembling on the road. But when the guy from the other car came to inquire and was in danger of being murdered by her kidnaper thing had changed - She decided to fight and save him even though she could pay with her own life.
After she all her projection just changed. Now, she could deal with her fears, and used her intellect and courage even to go into the den of the inquisition and came out without a scathe. There she gain new knowledge of self defiance and also a new friend.
Nicole suffer from a chronic laryngitis which cause her the ability to sing like an angle. But this is the formal diagnosis. In fact she lose her voice as a price for gaining something else. This something else is a very rare ability that can put her in the focus of the Inquisition - wizardry (Nicole is a wizard, not a witch, they are different. a sure sign for a wizard is to control electricity and fire. Wizards just have too much power and are too unpredictable. And by this they are too dangerous and must be eliminated.
This knowledge of the ruthless ways of the Inquisition isn't new. We already learned about it from "Inquisition".
This knowledge won't enough to scare Nicole from using a forbidden magic to investigate the cause of a murder of a young bookseller, that happened right next to her. This is the the time she also discover about the "Fenerec Plague" and she has to decide whether to save them or let them die. This will mean the extinction of the Fenerec race. And it also mean, that her family who are Fenerec will die too.
Why she?
Because only wizards have the ability to fight the plague, but not may left. most of them lost control and had been eliminated. She also the only one who can speak with the most powerful Fenerec, that lived through the previous outbreak of the plague - her father.
When things turned crazy, Nicole found that somebody wanted her very badly and nothing will stop him/her. The only problem is why?
As much if not more than book 1. It has the same type of errors that the first book does.
Words missing from sentences.
Book 1 referenced something as having already happened, while in book 2 it was currently happening, which threw me off a bit. At first I wished I had read them in a different order, but since book 2 is put together better than 1, I'm not sure. I think the author should clean up book 1 and then swap the order of 1 and 2.

As with book 1, I was delighted with the new story ideas I encountered in this book. Because of that, the issues didn't bother me much. If it were error free, I'd give it 5 stars.
I loved them first book in this series, and this one takes us back to just before that story started. It’s worth noting that not everything is as it seems at first glance. That even includes the death that catapults Nicole back into a world she was trying to leave behind.
Wizards are usually hunted by the inquisition, and Nicole has spent years hiding from them, getting by on the meager wages of a small-time actress. But then she makes a fateful trip to the mall, in search of a book, which she is about to buy when a store clerk is ripped apart right in front of her. Unfortunately the power had gone out, and a deadly killer is loose.
This story builds so well into the world already set out in the first book, and introduces more characters to the cast that is this worlds supernatural community. Their dynamics are beautifully places, and the story unfolds with enough twists and turns to keep the ending a surprise....
I can’t wait to get started on the next book, or the short story series that follows the aftermath of Winter Wolf...
